Logitech G recently introduced two new gaming peripherals: the G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL wireless keyboard and the G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless mouse. Having previously reviewed the G309 mouse, I'll now focus on the G515 keyboard. This tenkeyless model features Logitech's LIGHTSPEED wireless technology for low-latency gaming and uses low-profile mechanical switches, resulting in a notably thin design. Like other Logitech G products, it aims to deliver strong performance and reliability for gamers. In this review, let's dive into the details of the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL and see how it performs:
Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL: Who is it good for?
The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard is ideal for:
- Gamers who prefer tenkeyless keyboards
- Those seeking a wireless, high-performance keyboard
- Users who favor a thin, low-profile keyboard design
Pros and cons
Here are the things I like most about the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL:
- Exceptional wireless performance
- Compact, tenkeyless design
- Ultra-thin with low-profile keys
- Available with tactile or linear switches
- Colorful and bright RGB lighting
- Good build quality
- Three connectivity options (2.4 GHz LIGHTSPEED, Bluetooth, and USB)
- Good price for what it offers
There are also a few less positive aspects about it:
- Lack of dedicated (physical) media and volume controls
- Battery life may be limited under intense use
Verdict
The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard managed to impress me in a positive way. Its slim design and low-profile switches make it a good-looking choice for gaming. The only significant thing missing is a series of dedicated media controls, but if that’s not a deal-breaker for you, and you’re looking for top-notch quality for a reasonable price, it may be one of the best choices you can make. The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL has style, it works great in both intensive typing and gaming scenarios, and it’s more affordable than similar products from other major manufacturers. Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL is a good choice for anyone looking for a reliable and stylish wireless gaming keyboard at a reasonable price.
Unboxing the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL
The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL comes in an adequately large box that looks great. On the front, the dark gray cardboard box features a large image of the keyboard, highlighting its name, layout, RGB lighting, wireless connectivity, and type of switches. Mine came with tactile switches.
The back of the box showcases some details about the keyboard features, like its low-profile mechanical switches, its support for LIGHTSPEED wireless and Bluetooth connections, LIGHTSYNC RGB backlighting and per-key customization for key binding, mapping and layers.
Inside the packaging, there’s the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard, its wireless receiver, a USB A to C cable plus a USB wireless extender, and a series of documents with safety and warranty information. The quick start guide is printed on the inside of the box instead of on a separate leaflet, which means you won’t lose it that easily. 🙂
Unboxing the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL is a fine experience. The package looks great, and the bundle of accessories covers everything you need to get started.
Design and hardware specifications
The G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard is a low-profile, high-performance, tenkeyless keyboard. It sheds the numerical keys (Numpad) usually placed on the right side of any standard keyboard, and it’s extremely thin (22 mm or 0.87 inches in height) aiming for a more discreet, ergonomic, and sleek look and feel.
Otherwise, the keyboard has the full layout of keys you’d expect, plus three special ones in the top left: 2.4GHz LIGHTSPEED wireless, Bluetooth, and Game Mode.
The keyboard supports full RGB lighting with per key customization. Except for the three buttons I mentioned in the previous paragraph, which have different color LEDs placed near them, but not RGB ones.
On the top-right, there’s a selection of keys that can act as media controls when you also press Fn on the keyboard. When holding Fn down, F9 becomes play/pause, F10 is stop, F11/F12 skip to the previous/next track. The PRNT, LOCK, P/B keys become mute, volume down, and volume up. This approach is not as handy as having dedicated media and volume controls, but it works nonetheless and helps keep the keyboard’s size small.
Speaking of which, the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL measures 368 mm (14.49 inches) in length and 150 mm (5.91 inches) in width, weighing 880 grams (31.04 oz). As I’ve mentioned earlier, it’s also extremely thin, measuring just 22 mm (0.87 inches) in this respect. Whether you have a small desk or you want a fancy and undersized keyboard targeted specifically at gamers, the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL might be it.
The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard promises top-notch performance and reliability with mechanical switches and a fast 2.4GHz wireless connection. It offers versatile connectivity options, including energy-efficient Bluetooth and a USB-A to C cable (1.8 meters / 5.9 feet long), though the latter is necessary for charging. Unfortunately, the battery of the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL might be problematic for heavy users, as a full charge will only last you for (up to) 36 hours.
Another essential aspect regarding performance is the type of switches the keys use. The sample I tested came with GL tactile switches, but you can also get the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard with GL linear switches. I prefer the GL tactile switches, but if you like more fluid keystrokes, as well as MMO and action games where rapid double-tapping on the same key helps you register your commands more efficiently, the GL linear switches might be the right choice for you. If you want more technical details about these two types of switches, check out Logitech G’s Low Profile GL switches webpage.

The switches are covered by removable double-shot PBT keycaps, a thermoplastic polymer with excellent resistance, able to withstand years of use without breaking.

Using the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL gaming keyboard
To be clear, I do love tenkeyless keyboards for their smaller size and simplicity, but I’m not an admirer of thin keyboards. I can live with low profile keys on laptops, but for my gaming computer, I always prefer the taller keys found on regular keyboards. Having said that, the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL is a keyboard that, for me personally, hits many right spots. An advantage born from the fact that this is a low profile keyboard is that its keys have almost no wobbling. They’re stable in all circumstances, both at typing and gaming. The Spacebar key too, which is the one most prone to instability. Oh, and because the keyboard is so thin, I didn’t feel the need for a wrist rest. Which is something I must have on my desk with most keyboards.
I also like the materials used and the way the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL looks. It’s thin and elegant and doesn’t necessarily look like a keyboard made for gamers. It could sit just as well on the desk of a business professional or a person who isn’t a gamer but loves its design.🙂
I’ve had the keyboard on my desk for the last two weeks. During this time, I wrote more than just a few articles for our website - Digital Citizen - and I’ve played many hours of God of War while also reviewing another new device from Logitech G, the G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse (you can see it in the previous image). The latter impressed me in a variety of ways, just like the G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL. But coming back to the keyboard, what I wanted to say is that it looks good on my desk and it feels great in both gaming and typing, but…
There are two aspects I don’t like about this keyboard. First, the media shortcuts (the ones that need Fn pressed) aren’t as handy as dedicated buttons and a volume roller would be. While playing games, I found it quite hard to use the volume keyboard shortcuts. My experience was often a hit and miss one. In this respect, I missed my daily driver, the Logitech G Pro X TKL LIGHTSPEED keyboard.
Second, the battery life of the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL could be better. The company says that it should last you for about 36 hours on a full charge. What I can tell you is that if you spend a lot of time in front of your computer, like I do, you’ll probably have to charge it at least once a week if not more.
While I’m not enthusiastic about low profile keyboards, it felt great to type and play on the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL. Its performance is excellent in these respects. However, I would have preferred having dedicated media controls or at least a volume roller.
Drivers and software
If you want to configure the way your Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL works and lights up, you need the Logitech G HUB software. If you’ve read any of my previous reviews for Logitech G devices, you know I’m a fan of this software. It doesn’t only look beautiful, it really is easy to use. The dashboard shows you instantly the main details about the functioning of the keyboard: its battery level, wireless connection type, whether you’re using a custom key assignment for it, if its lighting effects are controlled by Windows 11’s Dynamic Lighting, and whether it’s operating in On-board Memory Mode or not.
Once you click or tap on the keyboard in the G Hub dashboard, you get access to a variety of options that allows you to create and assign different profiles and assignments for the keyboard, change illumination effects and colors, configure the keys that are disabled when Game Mode is on, as well as record and assign actions and macro actions.
Any key can be programmed as you like, with up to 15 different options for each. These can be actions, commands, macros, other keys, and even apps or mouse functions. It’s what I’d call complexity in simplicity. 🙂
Furthermore, you should know that the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard comes with one onboard memory slot. Using the Logitech G HUB software, you can create and save a profile on the keyboard’s physical memory. That way, when you travel and carry the keyboard with you, it will always use the profile you’ve saved on it without having to install the software on other computers you play on. It’s a nice touch for competitive gamers jumping from one PC to another.
Logitech’s G HUB software is easy to understand and simple to use. To get the most from your G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL keyboard, you’ll want to install this app on the gaming computer where you’re using the keyboard most often.
What’s your opinion about the Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL?
The Logitech G515 LIGHTSPEED TKL is an excellent choice for gamers seeking a high-performance, low-profile keyboard. While the lack of dedicated media controls is a no-go for me, its overall performance and design make it a good choice for many. What do you think? Is it the right keyboard for you?
